Last month, we featured The High Tea Society-Girls Connected, a nonprofit oganization "created to provide educational and cultural enrichment activities for inner city girls who attend the District of Columbia Public Schools." The organziation invites you to their Holiday Tea to celebrate young girls!    

Dear Friend:

You are cordially invited to our Annual Holiday Tea, which will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2017, from 4:00 pm – 6:30 pm at the Woman’s National Democratic Club, 1526 New Hampshire Avenue, N.W., Washington, DC 20036. 

The High Tea Society–Girls Connected (High Tea Society) program and our girls have a bright future because you have provided financial support, volunteered, mentored or have become members of the High Tea Society. Through your support, you are the threads woven into the safety net we have created for our girls. We are all inextricably linked, and the High Tea Society is profoundly grateful to you as we approach this significant milestone–our 20th Anniversary!

The fundamental principle of the High Tea Society program is that our girls’ past is not a precursor to who they will become. Our girls are not imprisoned by their past experience. Instead, they have the power within them to overcome negative experiences and to achieve whatever they desire–like seeds pushing through rocks to display their exquisite beauty.

We build leaders, empowered from within and not by circumstances, to take control of their future. The past then is only the first chapter, reflecting the experiences, environment, exposure and expectations that propel them to the present with the power to become a part of the solution. During their journey, we will be there to support, nurture and encourage them if they stumble and need a helping hand.

More than 800 girls from economically challenged communities have gone through our various programs:  Teaching through Tea, Tea on Wheels, Charming by Design, STARs and Motivational/Inspirational/Non-Stop Exposure (MINE).  And for 20 years, you have witnessed their growth into womanhood at different stages of their development. 

Now, as another group of girls comes under the High Tea Society umbrella, we need you to stand with us shoulder-to-shoulder.  Together, we will create a new platform to help even more girls find their way to a safe harbor where they can pursue their dreams and contribute to the civil society.
