Greetings
Welcome to the November newsletter from Physical & Sports Rehab.
|
In our line of work, we are often reminded of the important things in life as we see patients recovering from limitations to return to the things they find joy in.
Thanksgiving and the change of seasons gives us an opportunity to reflect on the things we have to be thankful for.
We would like to wish you and your family a great Thanksgiving.

This month’s featured nonprofit is My Brother’s Keeper (MBK) which was established in 2014 in Prince George’s County. This organization is new to the County, and it “creates a collaborative network of organizations that have support services for young people that will allow them to maximize their potential.”
Robert Johnson, a Bowie State University professor, has taken the leadership role to pioneer MBK in Prince George’s County. He has been blessed with mentors who inspired and provided him with opportunities to succeed, and he has a “strong desire to give that back.”
MBK makes certain that they can work with individuals that need mentors, college and career readiness programs, mental health programs and job creation workforce development. They also provide services to reduce gang violence and work with former convicts.
|
|
There are now over 240 MBK affiliates in the country that are carrying on former president Barack Obama's initiative and legacy. He challenged cities and communities to embrace MBK and shape it to work with their communities. The organization has been vetted by the White House and has its 501(c)(3) certification.
MBK will be holding their signature event on November 11, called the Student Leadership Conference. Over 600 students will be participating in workshops that will include college and career readiness, leadership development, overcoming challenges and obstacles, political issues, bully prevention, reducing gang violence, networking, branding, resume writing, and much more. But most importantly, the university will make onsite early admission decisions for high school seniors. Register for the event here.
Johnson strongly encourages individuals who are looking for an opportunity to mentor, work with young people, teach, and volunteer their time to contact him. If you do not have time, MBK is always looking for business partners to help support.
