Dear friends:

Greetings!  We had Ms. Tambra Raye Stevenson, of Women Advancing Nutrition Dietetics and Agriculture (WANDA) put on a workshop at the clinic in February.

We were so impressed with her efforts, we decided to help with her food policy efforts.  Please see the information below.  Tickets are $100 and would support her organization.  Thank you for your consideration.

I would like to invite you to join me at the 1st Annual WANDA Awards on Saturday, March 25th at the historic Fraser Mansion in DuPont Circle at 5 pm - 9pm in celebration of Women Advancing Nutrition Dietetics and Agriculture (WANDA)'s One Year Anniversary since launching in Washington, DC and Abuja, Nigeria.

Our theme is#HiddenFigures in the Food System: Black Women Breaking Barriers by Sharing Our Stories. We hope you will become a partner and review the bit.ly/wandapkt17  and check out the media kit bit.ly/wandamediakit  and share how you can support such as providing outreach and/or buy tickets at bit.ly/wandaawards2017.

During the event, we will be honoring the following for their important contributions to food, nutrition and agriculture in Africa and the Diaspora -

  • 1st African American U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria Dr. Robin Sanders, CEO of FEEEDS Africa
  • 1st African American Celebrity Chef Elle Simone of America's Test Kitchen, Dr. Sunyatta Amen, Owner of Calabash Teas and Tonics
  • Linord Moudou, Health Producer of Voice of America
  • America's Pioneer in Dietetics 90-plus year young Anne A. Walden, graduate of Tuskegee University

The purpose of this event is to fundraise for the "Where's WANDA?" initiative to inspire girls as future food leaders in Africa and the Diaspora like these phenomenal honorees. We need your support to bring awareness and action to create more Where's WANDA educational products sharing the health and beauty of African foods through learning games, WANDA dolls, toolkits, and the book series to children in the Diaspora and Africa.

Therefore our 2017 goal is to raise $100,000. So far we crowdfunded the initial Where's WANDA? book with the help of family and friends and we want to continue to build. By 2030 our goal is to touch the lives of 1 million women and girls to educate, advocate and innovate for a better life, community and food system in Africa and the Diaspora.

The celebration will include live musical performance from northern Nigeria artist, Ziriums, share your memories at our video booth, support the author showcase, and enjoy the dinner reception. Invited guests include policymakers, educators, food entrepreneurs and Diasporan organizations. Partners include Whole Foods, Physical and Sports Rehab, Nigerians in the Diaspora Organization DC Chapter, NAACP DC Branch, NativSol Kitchen and more.

Thank you for your support!

Best,

Tambra Raye Stevenson
